Beginner Art with Lorraine, Romanse,
Sockii, and Gonzai

Friday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.,

Lorraine, Chief Facilitator: Introduction to beginner fan art.

Romanse: Hints and tips for the beginner and a list of basic supplies for those just starting out.

Sockii: Capturing likenesses with the grid method and tips for working from photographs, including an overview step-by-step through a painting. Attendees will be given a thirty-minute exercise they can work on in class or take home.

Gonzai: An overview of reverse drawing to help beginner fan artists understand light and how it creates an image. The importance of light and shade and how necessary they are to creating 2-D art.

Lorraine: An overview of composition and closing remarks.


Beginner Photoshop with Barb Nice-Miller

The workshop is geared toward those of you who have never used the program and are curious as to what it can do, or those of you who are just starting out with the software. Photoshop is an immense program and this workshop is just the tip of the iceberg, designed to give you the confidence to begin working with the program once you know the basics. Then have fun and experiment on your own!

Topics include: Toolbox Overview, Color Adjustments, Filters & Filter Gallery, Layers Overview, Brushes Palette, Color Replacement Tool, Type, Unsharp Mask


Beginner Vidding with Jamie and Kat

Learn the basics on how to get started making your own fannish song vids. Our instructors will show you where to find WMM on the computer, how to get video footage from a DVD player or VCR into the computer, point out some DVD ripping programs so that DVDs can be directly downloaded into the computer, and how to use the video after it is captured into the WMM program, as well as discuss music issues. 


Writing: How to Tell a Better Story
with C. W. Walker

This writing seminar has been a fan favorite for nearly twenty years. The workshop concentrates on plot, but also addresses character and dialogue. Cindy is a college professor and teaches journalism, public relations, media literacy, film history, broadcast studies and scriptwriting, in addition to being a professional journalist and critic, and an award-winning fanzine writer. She brings tons of experience to the topic of writing in a fun and accessible format.
